Chandigarh police arrested a 24-year-old resident of Manimajra for allegedly raping his 16-year-old neighbour. Police said, the accused Mohammed Nawaz had locked the victim in his room for an entire night and allegedly raped her in the early hours of Monday.
Police said, around midnight on Sunday, the victim went out of her house to answer nature's call. Around 3.30 am, when the mother of the victim couldn't find her, she informed the police. Nawaz allegedly offered to help the victim's mother with the search. Police said Nawaz accompanied the victim's mother to the police station to register a kidnapping case.
On suspicion, police on Monday searched Nawaz's room and found girl there. The victim was taken to a hospital where medical report confirmed rape.
Nawaz has been arrested and a case of kidnapping under Section 363, wrongful restraint under Section 342 and rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against him.
The victim hails from Nepal and has been residing as a tenant for the past four months. The victim works as a domestic help and does not go to school, police said.
Her father mostly keeps ill while her mother runs a tea stall. Nawaz works as a help in building modular kitchens and has been residing as a tenant for the past seven years. Nawaz hails from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, police added.
